Manufacturing High-Reliability PCBA for Smart Home Security Systems
Runhi built a robust Smart Alarm PCBA using ESP8266 & Quectel modules. See our case study on reliable dual-mode IoT security manufacturing.
In the world of smart home security, reliability is the number one feature. A home alarm system cannot afford to go offline, even for a second.
Recently, Runhi Electronic successfully delivered a mass production order for a sophisticated Smart Alarm System. This project highlights our expertise in manufacturing IoT (Internet of Things) devices that require stable, dual-mode communication.

Here is a look at how we turned a complex design into a market-ready product.
The Project: A "Fail-Safe" Security Panel
Our client required a mainboard for a high-performance alarm system designed for residential protection. The key challenge was connectivity. To ensure the alarm could send alerts under any circumstance, the design featured a Dual-Communication Architecture:
- Primary Channel (WiFi): Using the ESP8266 module for high-speed, cost-effective connection to the user's home network.
- Backup Channel (Cellular): Using a Quectel Communication Module (4G/GPRS) to ensure data transmission continues even if the home WiFi or power is cut.

Our Manufacturing Solution
Integrating multiple RF (Radio Frequency) modules on a standard circuit board requires precise manufacturing control to prevent signal interference. Runhi provided a comprehensive solution:
1. Precision PCB Fabrication (FR4)
We manufactured the base using high-quality FR4 2-Layer PCB material. Although 2-layer boards are cost-effective, the layout for wireless devices demands strict adherence to design tolerances. We ensured:
- High-quality copper plating for stable conductivity.
- Precise solder mask application to prevent bridging around the fine-pitch module pads.
2. Supply Chain Management
For IoT products, the authenticity of communication modules is critical. Counterfeit chips often lead to unstable signals.
Runhi’s sourcing team procured 100% original ESP8266 and Quectel modules directly from authorized channels, guaranteeing the long-term stability of the final product.
3. SMT Assembly & RF Quality Control
During the assembly process, our engineering team optimized the Reflow Soldering Profile. Wireless modules are sensitive to heat; improper soldering can damage the internal components or lead to "cold joints."
- X-Ray & AOI Inspection: We utilized our advanced inspection equipment to verify the soldering quality of the modules, ensuring every pin was perfectly connected.
- Functional Reliability: The result is a robust PCBA capable of operating 24/7 in various environmental conditions.

The Outcome
The client successfully launched their product to the market with a defect rate significantly below the industry average. The combination of the ESP8266 and Quectel modules, assembled with Runhi’s manufacturing precision, provided the end-users with a seamless and secure experience.
